Harrogate Leisure & Wellness Centre

Harrogate Leisure and Wellness Centre underwent a £13.5 million refurbishment which saw the addition of a new 400 square metre fitness centre and upgrades to the sauna and steam suites including newly modernised changing facilities.

The centre's existing gym and swimming pool also received a complete overhaul, providing locals with an upgraded destination to improve their health and wellness.

Harrogate Leisure and Wellness Centre is a family-friendly destination and prioritising guest safety was of the utmost importance when specifying changing room systems. This was to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all.

Our Award cubicles were specified for the leisure centre’s changing facilities as they offer the perfect balance of cost-effectiveness, ease of installation and safety features that are crucial in such a high-traffic, family-friendly environment. Key features include emergency release indicator bolts, ensuring rapid access to locked cubicles in the event of emergencies and anti-finger trap hinges, which prevent fingers from being crushed in doors, enhancing user safety.

Situated in the swimming pool changing rooms, the cubicles would be exposed to high levels of moisture. To prevent potential damage and warping, the cubicles were specified in Solid Grade Laminate (SGL), a bacteria, moisture and impact resistant material. SGL can withstand heavy usage and the demands of wet environments without impacting the material over time, making it the perfect choice for these new leisure washrooms. 

To accompany the changing room cubicles, SGL Active Lockers were specified for staff and visitor storage. Additional wheelchair-accessible lockers were also specified to ensure that all components of the changing room system were inclusive to all. The lockers were installed with wristband keys, allowing members to safely store items by conveniently securing the key to their wrist during activities.

With over 30 laminate colours to choose from, the client opted for a cool-toned palette by incorporating ‘Indigo’ and ‘Cloud’ across the cubicles and lockers to create a modern, clean design.
