Unite the Union is a democratic campaigning organisation that champions workforce rights. Their four-storey Headquarters in central London recently underwent a complete refurbishment, transforming the space into a bright, modern office that promotes a positive and productive working environment for the team.
With minimal existing space to utilise in the building, the washroom design required a functional, space saving solution that matched the high-quality interior of the newly refurbished office space. A key requirement from the client was to include a robust storage solution for staff members to keep their belongings secure during the workday.
We worked alongside our Accredited Installers, T-IPS, to provide fit-for-purpose washroom solution that met the design requirements set out in the brief.
Situated in a high-traffic environment for both public and private sector meetings, the cubicles need to be durable to withstand heavy use. With this in mind, Unity toilet cubicles were specified to offer a modern yet hardwearing solution. Thanks to Unity’s set back pedestals, a floating appearance was achieved which gave the washrooms a high-quality, minimalist finish that reflected the rest of the office interior. The pilasters and doors were specified in Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) based on its scratch, impact and water-resistant qualities that guarantees durability and strength. The client chose ‘Gunmetal’ and a handpicked wood grain laminate, providing a clear colour contrast ensured maximum accessibility for all users and also matched the architectural style of the building.
Our groundbreaking, pre-plumbed panelling system, Vepps, was specified due to its ultra-strong aluminium frame and simple click-fix assembly. Vepps ensured speedy installation, reducing on-site installation time by up to 50% compared to traditional methods, a key factor for the client to ensure the facilities could
reopen as soon as possible.
Situated in a government building, safety and security were a high priority. Vepps ensured all duct spaces and pipework were concealed to prevent unwanted tampering while enabling easy ongoing maintenance, thanks to the patented 90-degree linear bearing hinges.
To complete the office washroom facilities, our H2 profile Solid Surface vanity units with semi-recessed basins in our popular ‘Volcano’ finish were specified with complementing underpanels to match the cubicles. The vanities offered a stylish and practical solution for the centre’s hand wash areas. Solid Surface was specified for its low maintenance and durable qualities, making it ideal for high traffic washrooms that require frequent cleaning, as the non-porous surface will not be affected over time.
To provide staff a place to secure their belongings, the client specified our Active Lockers for their staff room facilities. The client selected the Model 2 profile from a variety of configurations to best suit the requirements of their staff and ensure a functional, spacious locker design. The contemporary colour palette combined ‘Gunmetal’, ‘Cloud’ and ‘Olive’ to seamlessly blend with the other washroom elements, creating a cohesive and professional design.
We are delighted to have supplied a complete washroom package to Unite the Union’s Headquarters which will stand the test of time. The products specified not only met the practical needs set out in the initial brief but delivered a modern washroom solution that contributes to the positive workplace culture.
